William’s adorable comment on his first day of school many years ago. Take a look back at it in the first comment of the post.

At the age of four, William told reporters waiting at the school gates that he did not like them, despite being told by his mother Diana in the car to behave properly.

Most parents wave their children off at the school gates on their first day of school, hoping they’ll behave themselves. And that was no exception for Princess Diana when she took her eldest son, Prince William, to school for the first time in 1987.

But unlike other parents, Diana also faced the added pressure of having a large number of photographers gathered to record the start of William’s journey to school.

To prepare her son mentally for the media waiting in front of Wetherby Nursery School in Notting Hill, London, Diana had a conversation with her son in the car.

“Diana told him in the car, ‘When you go to school, there will be press and photographers, you have to behave yourself. You will be in situations like that for the rest of your life,'” Ken Wharfe, former bodyguard to Prince William and Prince Harry, told  Yahoo’s Royal Box .

However, her advice seemed to quickly pass over William’s head, because as he stepped out of the car, the prince made a rather mischievous comment to the photographers waiting at the school gates.

“William turned around and said something very special. He said, ‘I don’t like people taking pictures at all,'” Ken continued.

Although William was only four years old when he made the comment, it seems that the prince’s dislike of photographers has followed him into adulthood.

William and his wife Kate Middleton have always been fiercely protective of the privacy of their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Their three children are rarely seen at public events and when George and Charlotte started school, only a select few photographers were allowed to capture the special moment.

Kate is also a good photographer herself and often takes pictures of her children, then publishes these pictures on special occasions such as birthdays or Christmas. Like other parents, the Duchess of Cambridge also always makes sure that her children are fully prepared for the start of a new school year.

After enjoying a long summer break, George and Charlotte are expected to return to class next week at Thomas’s Battersea school.
