In the recent ITV documentary “Harry and William: What Went Wrong?”, several longtime royal watchers revealed that multiple sources said Meghan received a lot of criticism from the very beginning of her royal career.
Royal journalist and author Penny Junor claims the Duchess of Sussex became cocky and arrogant soon after she was introduced to the royal family as Harry’s girlfriend. Robert Lacey, author of Battle of Brothers , was told by a source close to Prince William that the former US actress had a pre-arranged schedule from the start.
“Someone close to William told me that William felt he was new to the royal family but Meghan had her own agenda,” Lacey said in the ITV documentary.
Meanwhile, Junor, who has followed the ups and downs of the royal family for years, revealed: “From very early on I heard bad stories about Meghan, that she was making people uncomfortable. She was not as charming as she seemed.”
Junor also criticized the Sussexes’ public rift with their family in a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March. “Harry and Meghan’s deliberate actions are not just Californian, they’re showbiz and celebrity. And our royals are not celebrities. They’re working members of a public organization. I was horrified by Oprah’s interview. These are not statements that should be made publicly. These are things that should be discussed privately in a psychiatrist’s office,” Junor commented.
Previously, in the new edition of Battle of Brothers , royal biographer Lacey Robert also said that Meghan was a complete nightmare . “Meghan can be a nightmare up to 500%, Harry’s close friends are the first to admit this. Always playing PR tricks. That’s all she is… Oh America!”, Lacey wrote on the Mail .
Lacey also said that even the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s supporters admit that Meghan’s actions were wrong. “The Sussexes’ supporters acknowledge that attention-seeking and self-pitying are characteristic of Meghan and can understand why that would be so offensive to William,” Lacey said.
In addition to criticizing Meghan, the documentary “Harry and William: What Went Wrong?” also caused controversy when it featured a reporter close to the Sussexes, Omid Scobie, in the original version to accuse William’s staff of fabricating stories about Harry’s mental health. However, after receiving a request from Kensington Palace, ITV removed this detail.
