King Charles and Queen Camilla arrive at Sydney Airport to begin five day Australian royal tour

King Charles and Queen Camilla have touched down at Sydney Airport to begin their first tour of Australia since ascending the throne.

The King and Queen’s flight was delayed due to weather and circled Sydney Airport before making a final descent.

Charles and Camilla will spend five days in Australia during the whirlwind tour six years after last visiting country in 2018 to open the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Their visit marks the first royal tour of Australia by a reigning monarch since Queen Elizabeth II, who visited Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Perth in 2011, and the first from a new monarch since 1954.

Charles and Camilla will visit Sydney and Canberra during the royal tour before departing for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Samoa on Wednesday.

The King and Queen are set to complete a blitz of engagements during the tour, including a visit to the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence, a community barbeque in Sydney’s west and a Navy Fleet review at the Sydney Opera House.

While security is tight for the visit, the public will have the chance to interact with the King and Queen at the Opera House on Tuesday.
