In an interview with Express , TV presenter Nick Ede, a former friend of Meghan Markle, addressed the Sussexes’ “Hollywood move” after their split from the royal family in 2020.
Over the past three years, they have stormed the world’s entertainment capital, from television interviews, attending events, producing podcasts, releasing documentaries, and most recently, releasing memoirs. By selling their privacy and denouncing their families, they have easily become the focus of not only the United States but also the whole world. However, instead of being supported as they were at first, Harry and Meghan have gradually become “thorns in the side” of the Americans.
Another reality is that despite their constant media appearances, they remain Hollywood outsiders. Their famous friends do not comment or make any moves to support their products. Worse, they have been the subject of ridicule at the 2023 Grammys and in the cartoon South Park .
Nick Ede believes the Duke and Duchess of Sussex didn’t realise they wouldn’t be treated like “Hollywood royalty” when they moved to California.
“I think they come in and think they’re the top of the pack, but they’re not. They’re actually pretty far down the pecking order. I think that’s a problem for them, in the sense that they’re relegated. I think people forget that in Hollywood, royalty isn’t people with titles. It’s J.Lo, Sharon Stone, Beyoncé, the Kardashians. They’re entertainment royalty. The Obamas and the Clintons. If you’re in the White House, other than Trump, you’re seen as the most powerful person. I think Harry and Meghan underestimated that in a lot of ways,” Ede said.
According to Nick Ede, he and Meghan have known each other since 2013. At that time, the public relations expert from Scotland asked the former actress to host the Global Gift Gala in London (UK). Ede emphasized that the friendship lasted for 3 years and Meghan knew how to behave. However, they lost contact when Meghan started dating Prince Harry.

Before Ede’s comments, the American magazine Newsweek, in collaboration with the market research firm Redfield & Wilton, conducted a survey on the level of support for Harry and Meghan among Americans since February 19. The results showed that the couple lost 48 and 40 points of support from the American people, respectively, causing their favorability ratings to drop to record negative levels, -10 and -17. Meanwhile, in December 2022, these rates were 38 and 23.
At a time when Harry and Meghan were in crisis, it was reported that another member of the British Royal Family, Prince Andrew, was considering moving to the US after observing the situation of his nephew and granddaughter-in-law.
Sources claim that the prince, shunned by the British over the sex scandal, is interested in business and charity. Unlike his nephew, he has sold his private life to the media and instead wants to build a new career.
