Harry and Meghan are ’embarrassed’ by backlash over their Colombia vacation.

From August 15 to 18, Harry and Meghan made a four-day trip to the South American country. OK! magazine quoted a source saying that the Sussexes “are eager to plan more visits like this because it’s what they love to do and what they love most about royal life.” However, mixed with that is a feeling of shame because of the negative reactions they received.

“They were embarrassed by the backlash they received on their latest trip, similar to the one they received in Nigeria,” a source told the magazine. “They want to help raise awareness of the issues facing these countries and they know their celebrity status can help. They also think it’s a boost for their Hollywood status and their brand. They don’t want to stop doing that, but they’re not sure what to do next to win back people’s support.”

Among those criticizing Harry and Meghan is Mr. Andres Escobar, a Colombian official. Escobar said that the Vice President of this country, Ms. Francia Marquez, wanted to invite the Sussexes to visit because “watching them on Netflix” was nonsense. He also objected to the cost Colombia had to spend to protect Harry and Meghan. “There are many, many Colombians who are poor, lacking basic needs. They invested huge amounts of money just because the Vice President wanted to meet two famous people, ignoring all the complaints and problems the country is facing. We are in an economic crisis and still have to invest in military planes and helicopters to protect Harry and Meghan.”

However, Colombia’s Ministry of Equality and Justice, led by Vice President Francia Marquez, still praised the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s “successful” visit. El Pais also reported that the ministry confirmed that Harry and Meghan paid for the $2 million trip themselves, with only some meals and travel being government-funded.
