Prince Harry returned to the UK on Tuesday to see his father, King Charles, after learning of his cancer diagnosis, while Meghan Markle remained at home.
Harry’s decision to travel to the UK and see King Charles after learning his father has cancer, a royal expert believes. Harry was one of the few close family members to be personally informed of the royal’s diagnosis before Buckingham Palace issued a statement on Monday evening. He flew from Los Angeles to London as quickly as he could, landing at Heathrow Airport on Tuesday afternoon, and headed straight to the palace to see his father before the king traveled to Sandringham via helicopter. Harry spent last night in a London hotel, and it is not known exactly when he will return to California, where Meghan resides with their two children.
The relationship between the Sussexes and the royal family has long been frosty, with royal expert Angela Levin claiming that a father-son reunion would not be welcome news for the Duchess. She told GB News: “Meghan won’t come with him and I think Harry has a big mountain to climb if he becomes very close to his father again. I don’t think she’ll be happy at all. He’s struggling with this rock that he’s on, whether he upsets Meghan or upsets his father.” Ms Levin added that she did not believe a reunion between Harry and Charles would end their feud over Meghan’s involvement, explaining: “I don’t think it will happen because Meghan won’t let it happen.”
In his memoirs, the Duke of Sussex was criticized for his attacks against members of his family, although he shared some fond memories of his father. He revealed that although Charles struggled with communication, when he did express his feelings face to face, he would leave letters to his son telling him how proud he was of him. “He had difficulty communicating, difficulty listening, difficulty with face-to-face intimacy,” Harry recalls. “Sometimes, after a long multi-course dinner, I would come upstairs and find a letter on my pillow. “The letter would say how proud he was of me for something I did or accomplished it. “I was smiling, tucking him under my pillow, but I also wondered why he didn’t say this moments ago, when he was sitting right in front of me.”
Others took a different view of Meghan’s take on the situation, with royal author Robert Jobson saying that the Duchess may have felt More comfortably at home. He said: “I think it was very wise for Meghan to stay at home with the children, because this is a very difficult and very personal moment for Prince Harry. Because of his book Spare, in which he insulted the late Queen, and insulted Prince William’s wife, Catherine, while also calling William a bully
