Last week, Harry and Meghan received an email invitation to attend the coronation of King Charles III on May 6.
The invitation to the coronation on May 6 came after King Charles III expelled the Sussexes from their royal estate Frogmore Cottage in England. A source close to Harry and Meghan revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were shocked and hurt by Charles III’s decision. Frogmore Cottage was given to Harry and Meghan by the late Queen Elizabeth II after their marriage in 2018 and is their “only home” whenever they return to the UK.
They have yet to confirm whether they will attend, but royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said the couple would “not dare say no” despite the dilemma they face.
Fitzwilliams told the Mail: “It’s obvious that Charles III invited Harry and Meghan to the coronation. He deeply believes it is a symbol of national unity. However, they have not responded in any concrete way and are in an urgent dilemma. On the one hand, they want to sit down with senior members and hold the Royal Family accountable for what they believe they went through as members. They think that, along with the press, the Royal Family sought to drive them into exile and want an apology. But they won’t get it.”
“Meanwhile, the Sussexes also have contracts with Netflix, Spotify and Random House thanks to their royal affiliation. If they don’t attend this important event, I’m afraid their image will no longer be relevant. So Harry and Meghan are really in a dilemma. Let’s wait and see,” the longtime commentator added.
On March 5, King Charles III made his first public appearance since the scandal of evicting his youngest son from Frogmore Cottage. The 74-year-old monarch appeared in high spirits and cheerful as he wore a long brown coat to St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham.
The coronation of King Charles III is expected to be watched by millions in the UK and potentially billions around the world. It comes on the same day as the fourth birthday of Archie – Harry and Meghan’s first son.
