From First Lady Jill Biden to past White House fashion icons, Meghan takes cues from fashion to perfect her style every time she steps out.
1. Melania Trump
Meghan and Melania have very similar tastes in fashion, with a minimalist American style. During her 2019 visit to the UK, Donald Trump’s wife chose a red Givenchy gown for a dinner at Winfield House. A year later, at the Mountbatten Music Festival, Meghan wore a similar dress by designer Safiyaa, but with shorter sleeves, and carried a matching red clutch.
2. Michelle Obama
Meghan seemed to have chosen Michelle as her muse when choosing her outfit for a visit to Marlborough House in London in 2018. The Duchess of Sussex wore a bright yellow dress by Brandon Maxwell, which looked quite similar to the design that former President Barack Obama’s wife wore in 2009 for a meeting at the Palazzo Guirinale, Rome.
3. Jackie Kennedy
As one of the most admired fashion icons in the world, it is no surprise that Meghan has taken inspiration from former First Lady Jackie Kennedy. She made an impression when she wore a cream-colored, double-breasted dress to a visit to the JFK Memorial in 1965. More than 50 years later, Meghan wore a similar double-breasted, short-sleeved Prada dress to the 2018 Young Leaders Awards.
4. Jill Biden
When she stepped out on stage at the Ryman Auditorium in April, First Lady Jill Biden was praised for looking younger than her years in a white, tailored Giorgio Armani suit. Just a month later, during a visit to Nigeria, Meghan wore an Altuzarra look that echoed Joe Biden’s wife.
5. Hillary Clinton
One of former First Lady Hillary Clinton’s most talked-about dresses was the black Donna Karan turtleneck with cut-out shoulders that she wore to her first White House State Dinner in 1993. And for the 2023 Invictus Games reception, the Duchess of Sussex wore a tight-fitting knitted Toteme with an identical turtleneck, reminiscent of Hillary’s iconic dress.
6. Nancy Reagan
When she became First Lady in the 1980s, actress Nancy Reagan opted for a simple, chic style. As a junior colleague, Meghan seemed to be copying Nancy’s style formula by wearing a white dress with a criss-cross bodice to the Royal Salute Polo Challenge in April. The dress bore striking similarities to the cream-colored dress Nancy chose for a GOP fundraiser at the Century Plaza Hotel half a century earlier.
