According to royal expert Tom Quinn, King Charles began planning for the future of the monarchy shortly after he was diagnosed with cancer. His poor health prompted the British monarch to make a specific plan for when he would hand over the reign to Prince William. However, the details surrounding this succession plan are still kept secret from Prince Harry.
“This succession plan is extremely secretive and no one trusts Harry to be involved in it. The simple reason is that if he feels overlooked or feels he is not being given what he deserves, he will go straight to the media,” shared Tom Quinn.
According to the expert, the heir to the throne – Prince William – is the “center” of King Charles’ succession plan.
“Officials had believed that Charles would remain healthy until at least his mid-80s before succession planning would need to begin,” the expert added. “But the fact that planning is now underway suggests that Charles’ cancer is more serious than we thought.”
Tom Quinn’s comments come just days after it was reported that Prince William has completely rejected the idea of giving his younger brother Harry the chance to return to the British royal family. Meanwhile, Prince Harry has also expressed interest in returning to work as a royal and performing some of his royal duties. Earlier this month, Harry flew home to see his father after hearing about his illness.
Although Charles has kept Prince Harry in the dark about the succession plan and has no intention of bringing him back into the working royal family, he is still willing to mend his broken relationship with his son. Previously, in an interview with Good Morning America, Prince Harry also affirmed that he always loves his family, and believes that “any illness can bring the family closer together”.
