What Meghan Said About Being Bullied

During a meeting with a youth mental health advocacy group, Meghan reportedly referred to herself as “the most bullied person in the world,” particularly regarding online harassment.

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, visited Girls Inc. in Santa Barbara, California, on October 2. The event, co-hosted by #HalfTheStory and Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara, involved spending a day without electronic devices with young girls and teenagers, and was later revealed on October 11 in celebration of the International Day of the Girl.

Larissa May, founder of #HalfTheStory, confirmed in an interview with Vanity Fair that Meghan made the statement while participating in the event. “We conducted a series of activities, including discussions about real-life situations. Meghan shared that she felt like one of the most bullied people in the world,” Larissa explained in the interview published on October 12.

However, some sources told the NY Post that while the 43-year-old former actress did discuss her experience with online bullying, she never explicitly claimed to be the most bullied person in the world. As of now, the Sussexes have not commented on the matter, despite multiple media outlets attempting to contact them.

Meghan began supporting #HalfTheStory in 2023. According to the website of the Archewell Foundation—a nonprofit founded by Harry and Meghan—#HalfTheStory focuses on educating people about online safety, promoting mental health, and equipping girls with tools for confident growth.

In August, the Sussexes also launched the Parents’ Network, which aims to support parents who have lost children to bullying. These are just two examples of the mental health advocacy efforts Harry and Meghan have been involved in.

Meghan has openly admitted her vulnerability over the years. In 2021, she revealed that she had contemplated suicide while still working as a member of the royal family.
