Meghan Markle has been accused of bullying by multiple staff members, but now her former bodyguard has spoken out and said the Duchess of Sussex is a ‘good person’
Meghan Markle is “a good person” with a “big heart”, her former bodyguard has revealed.
Steve Davies, who worked closely with the Duchess of Sussex when she first joined the Royal Family, has defended Meghan against multiple bullying allegations from staff. He insists that these are completely untrue.
“She was criticised as not being a good person to work with, that she was a toxic person within the Royal Family,” he said. However, Steve remembers her as someone who interacted with people from all walks of life, from “working with charities to working with dog walkers and cleaners”.

A key lesson Steve learned from Meghan was to “respect to be respected”. He also admitted that he “felt sorry for her” when she first became part of the Royal Family, The Mirror US reports
In an interview with In Touch Magazine, Steve explained how the constant surveillance affected Meghan. “She was paranoid,” he explained. “We had people following us everywhere we went.”
The former bodyguard recalled instances of being followed by drones and vehicles, describing it as a “nightmare”. The Duchess of Sussex was also denied the freedoms she once enjoyed.
Steve, who worked closely with Meghan Markle, recalled a time when the Duchess expressed a simple wish: to shop at a grocery store like anyone else. “I was pushing a shopping cart around the grocery store, and she was putting things in it,” he recalled. “She really enjoyed it.”
Meghan has been open about the restrictions she feels as a member of the royal family. In a candid 2021 interview with CBS, she revealed, “I can’t get an Uber to the palace. You can’t just go.”
The former ‘Suits’ actress also shared how her personal items, such as her passport and keys, are kept by royal aides. Reflecting on her desire for normalcy, she said, “People in The Firm would say, ‘No, you’re so saturated, you better not go out.’ I said, ‘Oh, I haven’t left the house in months.’”
Despite Buckingham Palace staff accusing Meghan of bullying, which she has repeatedly denied, Steve has portrayed Meghan as “warm and caring” based on his experiences with her in Canada. He also noted that people are often surprised by Meghan’s friendliness, “she has a big heart.” Although Steve is no longer her assistant, he still speaks highly of his former boss, saying he would not hesitate to work for her again, calling the Duchess a commendable boss.
