A source close to Meghan Markle revealed to Grazia magazine that she “deeply regrets” the way she and her husband Prince Harry handled matters after leaving the Royal Family. The Duchess of Sussex feels most regretful about the “racism” allegations that became the focus of the media following the couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey. Meghan believes her comments “weren’t received the way she expected and some of the comments backfired.” The source added: “Meghan wanted the main message from the Oprah interview to be about her mental health. I think Meghan regrets sitting down with The Cut in 2022 because she’s fed a lot of commentary to her critics.” Responding to the report, royal expert and former biographer of Prince Harry Angela Levin said Meghan’s “profound regret” was simply “too little too late.” Speaking to GB News, Levin said: “She deeply regrets her behavior towards the British royal family and is very sorry for saying they’re racist. I don’t know if I believe that, but it’s too little too late, isn’t it? Everyone knows that’s nonsense and it’s not being listened to anymore.” Ms Levin added that the allegations of racism had been deeply hurtful to the late Queen, who found the incident “very hurtful”.
Meanwhile, Meghan is now focusing on launching her American Riviera Orchard brand. The range is said to include “homewares, including jellies, jams and tableware, as well as cutlery, tablecloths and drinkware”. Meghan first announced the brand in March. She has since sent the first American Riviera Orchard product – a jar of raspberry jam – to celebrity friends including Chrissy Teigen and Kris Jenner.
However, American Riviera Orchard has hit a major snag after being denied a trademark by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The reason given is that businesses “cannot trademark geographical locations”. Levin said the rejection showed the brand managers had been “careless”. She added: “You would think that when you’re doing something this big, you would start with that and then send out 50 jars of jam. You don’t do that before you’ve sorted everything out with the brand.” However, a source close to Meghan dismissed claims of a major setback, telling Vanity Fair that the trademark tweak was “expected” and that the Duchess was continuing with the process.
