Back in spring, this was a completely restored 1957 Chevrolet Corvette C1 fuelie, one of just 713 fuel-injected cars produced that year.
In an unfortunate twist of fate, a dashboard fire charred the car, leading to the horrible scarring it wears today. Despite the fire damage, which we’re assured is contained to the interior and exterior body panels, the seller decided to list the vehicle on eBay anyways.
Yet fuel injection isn’t the only characteristic that makes this C1 Corvette a rarity. It’s also one of just 664 Corvettes built in ’57 equipped with a four-speed manual transmission. Plus, it has a numbers-matching engine, positraction rear end, an accident-free and rust-free frame, and all new chrome. Somehow, all the chrome and stainless steel was spared except for the windshield frame, which now needs to be redone. Could be worse.
Unfortunately, the hood and trunk were charred beyond repair and were disposed of.
According to the seller, the doors open and shut with good panel fit, and the seat frames and springs are okay, too. Thankfully, the 283 cubic-inch (4.6L) fuel-injected motor was spared and the entire drivetrain still remains in excellent condition. The radiator was also intact and remains full of antifreeze, and even the tires and hubcaps managed to escape the flames unscathed.
The seller promises its now a great project car that will be worth over $100K when fully repaired. The listing has already enjoyed over 30 bids and the price currently sits at $29, 101, which has not yet met reserve.
